The winter lecture by Terry Brotheridge was very interesting. It gave those who attended a chance to handle samples of different chandeliers dating from 1760 to more recent Victorian examples. Terry has agreed to return in July to dismantle and clean our chandelier in the Drawing Room. Apparently, by removing one bolt, the whole thing will come apart. We are going to have a £1 fine for any visitor who mentions Del Boy.
According to Terry it is very rare to find a house with more than one Georgian chandelier and we have three! He thinks the two Great Hall ones are by Parker who made the large chandeliers at the Bath Assembly Rooms. We are going to invite the National Trust chandelier specialist to visit in July to talk to Terry and to give us some more information about our chandeliers.
"....pssst! Don't tell anyone, but I think our chandelier is going to be cleaned!"
