About Time

Picture
Some of you will be please to hear that we are going to re-consider our clock winding policy.  Four year ago we were advised not to wind the clocks if we could not pay for a conservator to service them every six months.  As a result we continued to wind the large Great Hall clock, but only one other (a different one each year).

Our new clock conservator, Mike Flannery, is going to report back to us on which clocks we should be OK to wind, as long as we can have them serviced.  It costs about £1000 per clock per year for an overhall, but less if already running.

Sadly the Great Hall clock, wound in Flat 6, is no longer operable because of very worn spindles.  The turret clock can be conserved and may be one of our fundraising targets for next season.
